The Government of Canada has declared 2005 the Year of the Veteran. Throughout the year, Canadians will remember, honour, celebrate, and teach our youth about the contributions and sacrifices of our veterans.

During Veterans' Week, November 5 to 11, Canada will pause to remember all Veterans, to reflect upon their contributions and sacrifices, and to pay tribute to those who died protecting the values and freedoms we enjoy today.

"To go wherever we're needed… To do whatever is asked of us"

In 2005, Canadians reached out to thank our veterans and honour their decades of duty and sacrifice in times of war and peace. The Royal Canadian Mint proudly issued the Year of the Veteran 25-Cent Coin to pay tribute to Canadian veterans, young and old.

These brave men and women are not only those who fought in the World Wars I and II and the Korean War. Amongst them are the younger faces of Canadian Armed Forces personnel who have served in places like Afghanistan and the former Yugoslavia and who foster peace and freedom on behalf of Canada.

The design, by artist Elaine Goble, depicts the profiles of two veterans from different generations, joined by love of their country.
